On many safari concessions, Baboon can be taken at no charge. It is an unlucky hunter who has a Baboon observe him in a hide (blind) as they will take up a high position (in a tree or on a cliff) and bark their characteristic warning for hours. It is best to get up and leave the area, because nothing will come in when a baboon signals these warning barks.
There eye sight is phenomenal. If you see one approach, you must remain absolutely motionless. Usually the alpha male will come to water first, just to check things out. Then he will leave and return a few minutes later with his whole troop. Only when the adults begin to drink is it safe to get into shooting position and try your shot.
When agitated adult male Baboons can put on quite an impressive show with barring canines and snapping jaws.
Watching two males fight is well worth a photo.
